This is a rapidly growing area of well-supported research activity, also in great demand by potential graduate students. Our research within this theme is aimed at understanding how biological diversity, at various spatial and temporal scales and organizational levels, is affected by land use practices and human actions. Research is conducted in the context of resource-based economies, and strives to develop innovative solutions to biodiversity concerns. While the normative component of research in biodiversity conservation is acknowledged, commitments to this end are embedded in many regional, national, and international policies and agreements.
