“I had no idea what I wanted to do when I graduated from high school. My Mom worked with a friend whose daughter was a Land Reclamationist – I got interested and started researching. I talked with a lot of Professors in the Faculty and found that ALES was a smaller, more personal Faculty and offered courses that were interesting. I also liked that there was direction as to what I could do with my degree – it was specialized. One of my favourite experience at ALES is meeting all the students whom I have become close friends with – a smaller faculty makes this easier as its more personal. I also enjoyed Field School – not only does it give you some hands on experience, it provides that social aspect and gives you the opportunity to become involved. My professors like Dr. Anne Naeth and Dr. David Chanasyk have been exceptional – they are enthusiastic, passionate, and knowledgeable, presenting information that engages students. Environmental issues are becoming a big deal – economics, natural resource conservation, environmental development – they all tie together. I am glad I can apply my knowledge directly and contribute to these issues.”
