    • Charlie Arshad, Adjunct Professor (Renewable Resources), received the Soil Science Distinguished Service Award (Soil Science Society of America)
    • John Acorn won the 2010 ASTech Outstanding Leadership in Science Award for his contribution to Excellence in Science and Technology Public Awareness.
    • Pak Chow was a recipient of the University of Alberta 2010 Support Staff Recognition Award.

    • Ellen Macdonald, Anne Naeth, Andreas Hamann, Uldis Silins, David Chanasyk, and John Acorn were awarded the Faculty Teacher of the Year Award and will be featured on the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences Teaching Wall of Fame.
    • Nadir Erbilgin won the ALES Research and Innovation Award for his work on mountain pine beetle.
    • Bob Hudson received the Distinguished Service Award.
    • Jared LeBoldus, graduate student in Renewable Resources, won a FGSR Graduate Student Teaching Award. 
    • Janusz Zwiazek won the prestigious IUFRO (International Union of Forest Research Organizations) Scientific Achievement Award and the David J Gifford Award in Tree Physiology
    • Emmanuel Mapfumo, Instructor for the 2009-10 ENCS 455 Soil Remediation and ENCS 360 Soil and Water Conservation, was awarded the Environmental and Conservation Sciences Teaching Award by the Environmental and Conservation Sciences Students' Association.

    • Fiona Schmiegelow received the Boreal Leadership Council's Boreal Award
    • Andreas Hamann won the Faculty of ALES Research and Innovation Award
    • Anne Naeth, John Spence, John Acorn, Paul Woodard, Ellen Macdonald and Emmanuel Mapfumo were awarded the Faculty Teacher of the Year Award and will be featured on the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences Teaching Wall of Fame.
    • Uldis Silins was awarded the Faculty Teaching Award and also received the Alberta Sustainable Resource Development Service Award 
    • Bob Hudson received the William Rowan Distinguished Service Award from the Alberta Chapter of the Wildlife Society
    • Dick Puurveen won the Faculty of ALES Distinguished Service Award

    2008 Highlights

    • Mel Tyree was elected as a fellow to the Royal Society of Canada
    • John Acorn was awarded the NSERC Michael Smith Award for Science Promotion
    • Debra Davidson was awarded the Faculty Teaching Award, NACTA Teaching Award of Merit, and was one of two selected to receive a Faculty Research and Innovation Award 
    • Colin Bergeron (PhD Graduate Student) was awarded the NACTA Graduate Student Teaching Award
    • Robert Grant received the Ed and Peggy Tyrchniewicz Award for Innovation in Teaching
    • Alex Drummond was recipient of the ALES Distinguished Service Award

    2007 Highlights

    • Ellen Macdonald was awarded a 2007-08 Killam Annual Professorship.
    • Anne Naeth was awarded a Fellowship in the Canadian Society of Soil Science.
    • Glen Armstrong, Peter Blenis, Marvin Dudas, Lee Foote, Vic Lieffers, and Anne Naeth were selected to the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry, and Home Economics Teaching Wall of Fame.

    2006 Highlights

    • Peter Murphy and Fiona Schmiegelow were awarded the Alberta Centennial Medal in a ceremony in late February 2006. This one-time commemorative medal recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to society and to honour their outstanding achievements.
    • Anne Naeth was awarded the 2006 Mentors of the Millenium from the Alberta Women's Science Network.
    • Faculty Teaching Wall of Fame: Peter Blenis, Phi Comeau, Debra Davidson, Marvin Dudas, Lee Foote, Vic Lieffers and Anne Naeth were featured.
    • David Chanasyk received the Alberta Institute of Agrologists' Professional Recognition Award on March 8, 2006 at the AIA's 2nd Annual Conference on Agriculture, Food and the Environment at Banff.
    • John Acorn was awarded the 2006 CSZ Public Awareness Award: Public Education Prize by the Canadian Society of Zoologists at a ceremony at the Royal Alberta Museum during their recent national conference in Edmonton. This award is intended to recognize excellence in public education about zoology.

    2005 Highlights

    • John Acorn was awarded the 2005 Distinguished Alumni Award by the University of Alberta Alumni Association. The Alumni Recogniton Awards celebrate the diverse accomplishments of alumni and the recognition they bring to the University.
    • Alex Drummond was recognized with the 2005 James M Kitz Award (Canadian Institute of Forestry) for his outstanding contributions to forestry. The James M Kitz Award recognizes forest practitioners who have made outstanding contributions to forestry early in their careers. Alex received his award at the Institute's annual awards luncheon on August 23, 2005 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
    • Robert Grant was awarded a McCalla Professorship.
    • Vic Lieffers received the International Union of Forestry Research Organizations Scientific Achievement Award which will be awarded during the XXII International Union of Forestry Research Organizations World Congress Aug 8-13, 2005 in Brisbane Australia.
    • Anne Naeth was awarded the 2005 Award of Excellence by the University of Alberta Alumni Association and the Vargo Teaching Award, which was presented at the University's Celebration of Teaching and Learning, September 9, 2005.
    • John Spence received the International Union of Forestry Research Organizations Scientific Achievement Award during the XXII International Union of Forestry Research Organizations World Congress Aug 8-13, 2005 in Brisbane Australia.
    • Paul Woodard was recognized with the 2005 Canadian Forestry Achievement Award at the Canadian Institute Forestry annual awards luncheon on August 23, 2005 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. This award recognizes unique and outstanding achievement in forestry in Canada. This award, established in 1967 has the objective of encouraging excellence in the forestry profession.

    2004 Highlights

     

    • Peter Blenis, David Chanasyk, Marvin Dudas, Lee Foote, Ellen Macdonald, Anne Naeth, and Uldis Silins were awarded the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry, and Home Economics Teacher of the Year award.
    • David Chanasyk was awarded the Faculty Teaching Award.
    • Jim Beck received the Canadian Institute of Forestry/Institut forestier du Canada national award for Canadian Forestry Achievement on October 2, 2004.
    • Francis Yeh was awarded an Honorary Professorship from the Chinese Academy of Forestry 2004. Conferred on June 23, 2004 in Beijing.
    • Uldis Silins received a Merit award for service on the College of Alberta Professional Foresters Registration Committee.

    2003 Highlights

    • Mike Abley was the recipient of the Nat Rutter Outstanding Technician Award offered by our local chapter of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society.
    • Peter Blenis was awarded the University of Alberta's Rutherford Teaching Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
    • Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry, and Home Economics Teacher of the Year award: Peter Blenis, David Chanasyk, Debra Davidson, Alex Drummond, Marv Dudas, Lee Foote, Anne Naeth.
    • David Chanasyk was the recipient of the 2002-2003 National Association of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture Teaching Award of Merit. This award is presented by the National Association of College
    • Teachers in Agriculture to an outstanding instructor teaching in an agriculture program to encourage and recognize meritorious efforts in undergraduate teaching.
    • John Spence was chosen as the recipient for the Canadian Institute of Forestry/Institut forestier Canadian Forestry Scientific Achievement Award. The award recognizes an individual's unique and outstanding achievement in forestry research in Canada.
    • John Spence accepted the Al-Pac/ASTech Innovation in Integrated Landscape Management Prize on behalf of the Ecosystem Management by Emulating Natural Disturbance Project (EMEND) Project Partners.
    • Janusz Zwaizek was awarded a McCalla Research Professorship for 2003-2004.

    2002 Highlights

    • Alex Drummond, Vic Lieffers, and Paul Woodard received the Ed and Peggy Tyrchniewicz Award for Innovation in Teaching, awarded to the Introductory Forestry Field School Team.
    • Janusz Zwaizek was awarded a 2002-2003 Killam Annual Professorship. 
    • Bruce Dancik was recognized with the Meritorious Achievement Award from the Council of Scientific Editors.
    • Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry, and Home Economics Teacher of the Year award: Peter Blenis, David Chansyk, Debra Davidson, Marvin Dudas, Les Fuller, Anne Naeth.

    2001 Highlights

    • David Chanasyk was honored as Agricultural Institute of Canada Fellow (The Agricultural Institute of Canada) in recognition of "outstanding contribution to the agricultural industry in Canada."
    • Faculty Teaching Wall of Fame: Marv Dudas, Les Fuller, Vic Lieffers, Anne Naeth, and Fiona Schmiegelow were featured.
    • Bob Hudson was awarded a McCalla Research Professorship for 2001-2001.
    • Jane King received the National Association of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (National Association of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture) award.
    • Bill McGill (Renewable Resources staff member until January 2001)was honored as Agricultural Institute of Canada Fellow (The Agricultural Institute of Canada) in recognition of "outstanding contribution to the agricultural industry in Canada.
    • Anne Naeth was awarded a 2001-2002 Killam Annual Professorship.
    • Paul Woodard received the Canadian Institute of Forestry Tree of Life award.
    • John Spence is the winner of the Entomological Society of Canada's Gold Medal for 2001.
    • The University of Alberta recently received an Award of Excellence from Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) Canada, the leading geographic information systems (GIS) provider in the nation. ESRI Canada's Awards of Excellence are presented annually to organizations or individuals across Canada for outstanding achievement in the application of geographic information systems technology. This award will recognize the work that SunSITE Alberta and the Department of Renewable Resources have done with the Beaver County Sustainable Communities Initiative.

    2000 Highlights

       

    • David Chanasyk was awarded a Fellowship in the Canadian Society of Soil Science. This award was presented at the awards banquet in Winnipeg on July 18.
    • Bruce Dancik was a receipient of a International Union of Forestry Research Organizations Scientific Achievement Award. This award was presented at the Congress in Malaysia in 2000.
      Faculty Teaching Wall of Fame: Alex Drummond Marv Dudas, Anne Naeth, and Janusz Zwiazek were featured.
    • Bob Hudson received the Lou Hyndman Award for promoting animal welfare in research. Established in 1994 by the Animal Policy and Welfare Committee, the Hyndman Awards are presented annually to a primary researcher and a technician for significant contributions to the welfare of animals used in university research and teaching.
    • Noorallah Juma won the Ed and Peggy Tyrchniewicz Teaching Innovation Award from the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry & Home Economics, University of Alberta for developing internet resources and for integrating technology in the classroom. He has also received very positive comments from students (K-16), teachers, professors, professionals and public at large from different parts of the world.
    • Anne Naeth was presented with a Distinguished Agrologist Award from the Alberta Institute of Agrologists for outstanding service and contributions to the industry of Agriculture.
    • Rich Rothwell was presented with the Frank Appleby Professional Award from the Alberta Registered Professional Foresters Award.
    • Francis Yeh was a receipient of a International Union of Forestry Research Organizations Scientific Achievement Award. This award was presented at the Congress in Malaysia in 2000.
